GREECE – Marousi 2004 capitalized on 11 defensive errors and rolled to a lopsided 18-4 victory against Leaders Vouliagmenis to win the 2013 Greek Baseball Championship. The newly-crowned titleholder also won their first-ever Greek Cup tournament crown earlier this year.
Marousi avenged a loss to Spartakos Glyfadas in the 2012 championship series by ousting the reigning Greek champions from this year’s playoffs. In an evenly-matched affair, last year’s bridesmaids defeated Spartakos 3-2 in a best-of-five semifinal matchup to advance to the title showdown against Leaders.
Marousi won a sloppy first game, 19-15, as both teams played poorly on defense. But, the Leaders bounced back and won the next two games, 15-9 and 15-8, to come within one win of claiming the championship.
With their backs to the wall, Marousi rallied to win Game 4 in a late-game thriller on a walk-off single to earn a 12-11 victory.
